Groundbreaking set for $16M NeuVue mixed-use development in Milwaukee

Community leaders will hold a ground-breaking ceremony on June 30 for a $16 million mixed-use development on Milwaukee‘s west side.

The six-story NeuVue project at the intersection of West Cherry and North 12th streets will feature street-level commercial space and 36 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments for young adults aged 18 to 24. The project is led by Neu-Life Community Development, a Milwaukee nonprofit that has served youth on the city’s near north side for 26 years.

The 108,000-square-foot development will include Neu-Life’s Farmfork Culinary School and Café, Neu-Media Studios, the organization’s administrative offices and space for mission-aligned nonprofit partners, according to a Neu-Life Community Development press release. Additional amenities will include a two-story gymnasium, an outdoor courtyard, community gathering spaces, a rooftop garden with a green energy roof, and both underground and surface parking.

The total project budget is $16.2 million and the organization has a fundraising campaign goal of $8.1 million, according to Neu-Life. The organization has received gifts and support totaling $6.6 million and in-kind donations of $1.6 million. The construction budget is around $12 million, and Neu-Life has a contingency fund of around $1 million.

The project is being supported in part by $3.5 million in federal New Markets Tax Credits, Urban Milwaukee reported, and a $3 million matching challenge grant from philanthropists Keith Mardak and Mary Vandenberg.

According to Neu-Life, the NeuVue project is intended to address gaps in affordable housing, workforce development, mental health services and economic opportunity while creating a community for young adults transitioning to independence.

The organization said the development will provide life-skills education, supportive programming and other resources aimed at helping youth aging out of traditional systems of care achieve long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

In 2025, Neu-Life Community Development launched a fundraising campaign for the $16.2 million NeuVue project. The organization says its programs are designed to equip young people with the skills and support needed to succeed in school, work and adulthood.

There will be residential units with a mix of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units from the second to the fifth floor of the complex.

Project partners include Foley & Lardner LLP, Engberg Anderson Architects and General Contracting Services.
