The project will be the product of collaboration among the Milwaukee School of Engineering, We Energies, Rockwell Automation and American Family Insurance. The center is meant to be a place where K-12 students can receive instruction in science, technology, engineering and mathematics – collectively known as the STEM subjects.

BUILDING BLOCKS: Performing-arts auditorium for the St. Croix Falls School District


The auditorium will provide space for instruction in music and other performing arts, including theater, musicals and concerts. Also part of the project will be a $1.8 million fitness center and $525,000 addition to the district bus garage. The work is expected to begin in spring 2021 and wrap up in fall 2022.

BUILDING BLOCKS: Reconstruction of Washington County Humane Society building


This project is having two-thirds of the humane society’s existing building demolished and rebuilt and the remaining third renovated. One goal is provide a low-stress setting that will help keep animals healthy, particularly cats. The humane society has been able to cut its average length of stay for cats in half and has its average stay for dogs down to a week.

BUILDING BLOCKS: Renovation of 310W

The building, originally The Blue and Reuss Federal Plaza, was built to house various government offices and private tenants but, over time, came to be about 75% vacant. The property was bought in 2017 for $19.5 million by Time Equities, which quickly move forward with plans to turn it into a class-A office and retail building.
