Take the ‘Karate Kid’ approach to a new job

A story I wrote Friday about hiring predictions for 2014 emphasized the trouble contractors might have adjusting to a younger workforce.

But the story didn’t take a look at the same issue from the point of view of that younger workforce and the trouble it might have adjusting to a job site.

Then I found this post, offering advice for newbies to rely on during their first week on a job site and thought it summed up nicely the tips I had hoped to be able to offer.

My favorite sentiment from the post comes toward the end, where the temperament necessary to deal with the repetitive nature of some tasks is compared to a “Karate Kid” approach: You get better one bucket, one nail, one load at a time.
