2023 Hard Hat Safety Forum

The Daily Reporter will host its annual virtual Hard Hat Safety Forum at 9 a.m. on Feb. 22, 2023, where a panel of industry leaders will discuss the latest tips and trends around safety — both in the field and from an employer’s perspective. Our experts will also answer safety-related questions from the audience and discuss best practices.

PANELISTS

Dan Bukiewicz

Dan Bukiewicz is the Milwaukee Building and Construction Trades Council president and Oak Creek mayor since 2017. Before being elected to serve the Council, Dan had been a business representative of IBEW Local 494 since 2012, where he provided representation for all contracts, apprenticeships, pensions, grievances and communications with various industry and businesses affiliated with Local 494. Prior to becoming a business representative, he spent 19 years at a large electrical contractor.

Dan Burazin

Dan has been the safety director with the Associated General Contractors of Greater Milwaukee for over 25 years. In addition to his duties as safety director, Dan has been teaching courses at MSOE in the Architectural Engineering / Construction Management Department for 20 years, as well as Marquette University in its Construction Management Department. He has also taught Safety Management courses for the national Associated General Contractors of America.

Don Moen

Don is the human resources and safety director at the Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin. Don and his team provide safety consultation services to ABC members, which includes regular site visits, and works closely with members to enhance job site safety. He has served ABC and its members for more than 25 years. He is also a former business owner and adjunct professor for Construction Safety Management at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Dan Sperberg
Local 139 Training Director

Dan has been the training director at the Wisconsin Operating Engineers Training Center since 2004. He manages the largest apprenticeship program in the state of Wisconsin, with currently over 800 active apprentices. He has also been the vice president of the Operating Engineers Local 139 since 2014.

Dan has received extensive credentials in order to educate new generations of Operating Engineers in their safety certifications necessary in the construction industry. He has received credentials from the National Mine Academy in Beckley, West Virginia, to instruct Mine Safety and Health Administration. He is also certified as an OSHA, CPR & First Aid, Hazmat and MEA (pipeline) safety instructor. He has been nationally recognized for his service and leadership and was appointed as an Apprenticeship Ambassador in November 2022 by the United States Department of Labor. Dan has also been recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and received its Tribal Excellence Award. He was also awarded the Labor Partner Award by WRTP | Big Step, a Newsmakers of the Year award by The Daily Reporter and the Excellence in Apprentice Training award by the International Foundation.
