Republicans who control the Legislature's powerful budget-writing committee again blocked a Democratic attempt Wednesday to legalize marijuana for medical uses.
The Wisconsin Legislature's Republican-led budget committee on Thursday killed hundreds of Democratic Gov. Tony Evers' priorities, including ones that would have legalized marijuana and expanded Medicaid, as it began crafting the next state spending plan.
Gov. Tony Evers and his fellow Democratic lawmakers have introduced a series of proposals designed to reduce overcrowded prisons, but without support from Republican leaders they are unlikely to gain momentum in the GOP-controlled Legislature.
