Roads budget gets pushback from transportation advocates, unions

A representative of the transportation industry is asking why bother even spending money on preliminary work for an expansion of a east-west running of section of Interstate 94 if it's not clear the state will have money for the project anytime soon.

As a report warned Tuesday that delaying various long-planned highway expansions will cost Wisconsin thousands of construction jobs in the short term and millions in taxpayer money, Gov. Scott Walker announced he is working with lawmakers to have more money approved for specific projects.
