Backers of a bill that would curb the power of the Milwaukee County Board and require a vote on cutting the pay of county supervisors say that is their only target.
The state Assembly’s Committee on Government Operations and State Licensing voted 6-3 Thursday in favor of a bill that would schedule a Milwaukee County referendum for April 2014 to determine whether the board of supervisors should be part-time.
The chairwoman of Milwaukee County’s Board of Supervisors only could offer listening sessions as an alternative when she asked a state legislative committee Wednesday to reject a bill that would make her and her colleagues part-time employees.
