BUILDING BLOCKS: Community First Champion Center

The Community First Champion Center was backed by 10 cities and villages in the Fox Valley and is meant to draw tourists to that part of the state. It has an ice rink with seating for 1,000 people, a fieldhouse with four basketball courts or eight volleyball courts and seating for 800 people and a seasonal arena that can be used as an ice rink or as four basketball or six volleyball courts.

BUILDING BLOCKS: Nicholas Recreation Center at UW-Madison

The Nicholas Recreation Center – the “Nick” for short – is being built as a replacement of UW-Madison campus’ 170,145-square-foot Southeast Recreational Facility, which was demolished in fall 2017. That former building, which was nearly 35 years old, tended to get crowded at certain times of the day, had a swimming pool that wasn’t big enough for swim meets and had structural flaws like a leaky roof.
