Los Angeles-based AECOM Technical Services Inc. is the front-runner for a state contract to oversee the renovation of the Milwaukee Intermodal Station‘s train shed.
The $15 million renovation is designed to bring the train shed, where passengers board and get off trains, into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will negotiate with AECOM on a contract scope and price for construction management services on the project.
If WisDOT cannot negotiate an acceptable project cost with AECOM, the department would begin negotiations with its second choice, Milwaukee-based C.G. Schmidt Inc., according to an email attributed to a department spokesman. Bloom Cos. LLC, Milwaukee, was the third choice. WisDOT officials plan to award a contract in six to eight weeks.
WisDOT expects to release construction bids in May, and the project is estimated to require 15 to 18 months of construction, which will be paid for with state and federal money. Follow @bkevit
