Wis. unemployment unchanged in February

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin’s rate stayed the same last month, although it’s an improvement of nearly 2 percentage points compared to the same period last year.

According to a report released Wednesday, the seasonally adjusted rate was 7.4 percent in February. That was unchanged from January, but is 1.7 percentage points better than in February 2010.

Wisconsin added more than 5,200 from January to February. The private sector gained a net of 3,600 jobs, led by growth in manufacturing. The public sector gained 1,600 jobs.

Unemployment nationwide improved slightly to 8.9 percent, down from 9.0 percent in January. The figure is almost a full point better than the national figure from this time last year, which was 9.7 percent.
