The Milwaukee Rehabilitation Hospital at Greenfield opened its doors to the public in late 2021 after a 12-month construction phase led by Catalyst Construction.

Situated on 4 acres on the 3200 block of South 103rd Street in Greenfield, the 15,000-square-foot facility was completed for approximately $17 million and is operated by Nobis Rehabilitation

Partners, an organization that develops inpatient rehab centers throughout the U.S.

The hospital features an outdoor courtyard for walking and therapy, wide lounging corridors for patients and visitors and free on-site parking.

“The actual construction of a rehabilitation hospital is different than most medical buildings,” said Jim Peterson, project manager at Catalyst Construction. “Our team had to account for medical and hospital equipment but also make sure there were plenty open areas for physical therapy and movement.

“Catalyst needed to incorporate all the typical hospital systems but also was required to work with limited space due to large common areas for people, lack of wall space and tall ceilings, which limits ease of mechanical work.”

With 40 private rooms and two therapy gyms, the new three-story inpatient rehabilitation center offers the latest in recovery and rehabilitation technology. The 120-person medical staff provides physical and occupational therapy, rehab nursing and speech-language pathology as well as treatment for patients suffering from debilitating disease, illness, or complex neurological and orthopedic injuries or infirmities.

Construction was completed in December 2021.

“We want to have long lead time items bought out as soon as possible in order to keep the project on schedule,” said Mike Lange, project superintendent for Catalyst Construction. “There was a collaborative effort between Catalyst and all subcontractors; work never not stopped on the job site. It took some creative effort to complete some tasks out of sequence in order to hand over the building on time.”
