With careful planning, good communication and teamwork, JP Cullen completed the renovation of Camp Randall’s Southern End Zone with an extra month to spare.
JP Cullen was given a tight timeline — demolish the current end zone structure and build a new one between the end of one football season and the start of the next one. Plus, ensure the University of Wisconsin can hold its annual commencement ceremony in May.
“We planned with a high level of detail,” said Cullen Vice President Jeremy Shecterle. “We knew what materials and systems we would need and focused on getting them delivered so we did not have to wait. As for commencement, communication was key. We started talking early and were able to turn the ceremony around with the stage right in front of the southern end zone.”
As part of the renovation project, enhanced seating options were added, including loge boxes and club seats, along with indoor and outdoor hospitality clubs and expanded premium food and beverage offerings. The new options will increase revenue for the university’s athletic programs.
Construction work began before Thanksgiving and was finished in time for the Badgers’ training camp to open in July. By finishing the project early, stadium staff had time to adjust to the new facilities.
The project started with a comprehensive 3-D building information modeling scan of the structure, which helped the team plan for even the smallest issue. The model also served as an integral tool for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection coordination.
Shecterle said special care was taken to ensure the new area did not block the view of the historic Field House’s facade from the stadium.
