Construction equipment maker will expand in Milwaukee’s north side

Another manufacturer has announced plans to scale up in ‘s north side.

Milwaukee-based Maxon Industries, Inc., a construction equipment manufacturer, will buy 1.6 acres of land from the city for a $2.8 million in the city’s north side. After expansion, the company will add 25 new employees to its current operation of 22 workers. It will add additional cranes and equipment as well.

The company will buy part of 6600 N. Teutonia Ave. from the city for $125,000, according to a city land report. The purchase was approved by the Common Council in early June and the Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee in late May.

On Thursday, Milwaukee Mayor was scheduled to meet with city and company leadership to sign the resolution authorizing Maxon’s purchase.

Maxon wants expand its current facility by around 9,000 square feet and 8,000 square feet in two different phases, including a facility, parking and storage to its 21,000-square-foot facility at 3204 West Mill Rd.

In 2011, the city acquired 6600 N. Teutonia Ave., located in the Fairfield neighborhood, through property tax foreclosure.

Maxon was founded in Milwaukee in 1972, and its heavy equipment has been used in major infrastructure projects around the world. Projects included the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Deep Tunnel System and the third set of locks in the Panama Canal expansion.

In June, Milwaukee fuel tank maker Tramont Manufacturing LLC shared plans to lease space within the former Super Steel building, 7900 W. Tower Ave., the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. The expansion was driven by ongoing data center work and growth.
