Another Waukesha manufacturer is considering a large facility expansion.
St. Louis-based The Gund Co. on Wednesday discussed potential plans for a 110,000-square-foot manufacturing and warehousing addition for its facility at 809 Phillip Dr. with the Waukesha Plan Commission. No action was taken on the discussion, which featured a two-story office space and main facility entrance in the manufacturing district.
The Gund Co. makes composite materials used in electrical systems, engines and other mechanical and industrial equipment, according to a city staff report. Gund’s current facility has manufacturing lines, a warehouse and an office with a total footprint of around 65,000 square feet.
The first phase of expansion will connect to the existing building and will include a warehouse and loading dock area. The next phase will connect to the first phase with an office area at the north end of the building near Phillip Drive and additional manufacturing space.
The addition will extend onto an adjacent property west of the current site which will need to be combined with the parcel. The company will also add a driveway from Phillip Drive.
In May, the commission approved a minor site plan and architectural review for a new storage tank at the facility.
The Gund Co. has locations across the U.S. and multiple countries including Canada, Mexico and India.
Waukesha officials also considered expansion plans introduced by gas engine maker INNIO. That company wants to combine several parcels at 1101 W. St. Paul Ave. and build a 84,414-square-foot addition to support production of a new engine line.
