The Daily Reporter staff writer Ethan Duran has won a pair of honors from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association’s 2024 Better Newspapers Awards event.
The awards event, held March 7 in Madison, honored top writing and advertising entries from across the state.
Duran won a second-place award in the Business Coverage category for his story on marijuana in the workplace and how the construction industry is adapting to a changing legal landscape. The judges wrote of the winning entry: “Marijuana in the workplace is an issue for employers. This story does a fine job laying out potential challenges and warns employees to know the policies related to their jobs.”
Duran also won an honorable mention award in the Health Coverage category for his story on traumatic brain injuries in the construction industry and what one company in particular is doing to be proactive in addressing potential injuries.
The 2024 WNA contest received 2,134 entries from 105 newspapers. Eligible entries were published between Sept. 1, 2023 and Aug. 31, 2024, and were judged by members of the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.
