MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Republican leader of the Wisconsin state Senate says he met secretly with some of the 14 Senate Democrats who left the state to avoid voting on a bill taking away public employee rights.

Senate Majority Leader wouldn’t say Tuesday who he met with or how many were there. But he said the Democrats discussed with him ways in which they could return to the Capitol.

Fitzgerald said the meeting lasted about two hours. He said Democratic Minority Leader Mark Miller was not at the meeting.

Fitzgerald said no agreement was reached about returning but he expects talks to continue.

Fitzgerald said the meeting shows there is disagreement among the Democrats in their resolve about staying away to delay action on the bill.
