The city of Madison will redevelop 130 acres of farmland into housing, roads, parks and flood-control efforts after local developer Veridian Homes finalized its purchase from a family farm in early June. The first phase of subdivision construction is expected to start this fall.

bought a combined 135 acres of land from Marty Century Farms near Raymond Road and Mid Town Road and sold around half of the land to the city of , city officials said. The city will use 40 acres to expand Elver Park and improve systems and right-of-way on another 27 acres, officials added.

Under a subsidiary, the developer bought 75 acres at 7751 Mid Town Road for $4.49 million, state records showed. The developer also bought more than 60 acres at Marty Road and Raymond Road for more than $3.65 million.

In May, the Madison Common Council approved plans for Midpoint Meadows, creating 151 lots for , 98 lots for 49 duplexes and one lot for future multi-family development.

The remaining plat has three lots for future developments, two lots for stormwater management and an alley outlot, officials said in a news release.

“For more than two decades, the city has been interested in portions of the land owned by the Marty family for public improvements consistent with the neighborhood plan,” Jenny Frese, the city’s real estate services manager, said in a statement. “The city is grateful for the collaboration with Veridian and the Marty family to make this possible,” she added.

The development will include new street connections, including rerouting of Mid Town and Raymond Roads through the subdivision, city officials said. There will be a connection of South High Point Road, which is split in two sections by farmland. How road construction is carried out depends on the subdivision’s progress, officials added.

Plans for Elver Park’s expansion will be determined by master planning efforts tentatively scheduled to start in 2027, officials said.
