A construction worker suffered minor injuries Wednesday after he fell 30 feet at a Findorff construction site in Madison.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released the same day, a company spokesperson said in an email.
The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. at the future site of the Hub Madison Bassett apartment complex, 449 W. Johnson St., according to a news release from the Madison Fire Department.
Workers at the site told investigators they were moving and adjusting scaffolding alongside the building when both the scaffolding — and the telehandler supporting it — tipped over. One worker on the scaffolding reportedly clung to the building until he could no longer hold on and then fell about 30 feet, according to the release.
The fire department described the man’s injuries as non-life threatening. No one else was injured, but firefighters stayed on scene to deal with hazards from leaking fuel and oil coming from the overturned telehandler.
“We care deeply about our people and teams,” the Findorff spokesperson said. “The health and safety of everyone on our job sites is our highest priority. We are addressing the cause of the incident and making improvements as needed.”
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration had opened an investigation into the accident.
Findorff, which is based in Madison, operates across the Midwest and beyond, providing general contracting and construction management services in sectors including healthcare, education and commercial development.
