PROJECT SIGNIFICANCE: Kahler Slater and LMN Architects announced the completion of Morgridge Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The $230 million, donor-funded facility will be home for UW-Madison’s School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences with computing and data related disciplines under one roof for the first time.

The hall was a shared vision between the university and alumni John and Tashia Morgridge, officials said.

A central feature of the facility is the atrium known as “the heart,” a vibrant open space including a central staircase and tables for students, staff and visitors. Overhead skylights allow natural sunlight to fill in.

The computer science school held an official groundbreaking in April 2023, according to university officials. Stakeholders and Gov. Tony Evers held a ribbon-cutting in September 2025.

Kahler Slater and LMN teams designed the building between 2020 and 2022. Madison-based Findorff was the general contractor.

The project site area was 103,701 square feet, Kahler Slater officials said. The building height reaches 138 feet.
