PROJECT SIGNIFICANCE: A $10.3 million expansion of the construction and remodeling program space at the Madison College Truax Campus was recently completed.
The project featured a 30,000-square-foot renovation of the North Storage Building, formerly a cold storage warehouse, officials said. The college’s construction and remodeling program relocated from the Commercial Avenue campus to Truax and started their fall 2025 semester at the new facility, officials added.
The renovation called for two large workshops designed for roof framing, siding, insulation and green building demonstrations, officials said. Included in the space are a modern computer lab and two classrooms, a dedicated lab for power tools and safety instruction and new student collaboration areas. Students will be allowed to construct sheds, garages and tiny homes indoors with the help of high ceilings and large overhead doors, officials added.
The new facility is designed to meet LEED Silver Certification, and the building was designed to include a 125-kilowatt rooftop solar array, light control systems, water-saving fixtures, advanced heat recovery systems, a rainwater bioretention basin and EV vehicle charging stations.
