Buildings have always interested Laura Blood Velotta.
“Engineers and construction workers create incredible structures that we live and work in,” Blood Velotta said, “and we take that for granted.”
So, with that lifelong love, it’s no surprise that Blood Velotta decided to pursue a career in the construction industry. She is the mechanical, electrical and plumbing group lead at J.H. Findorff & Son, where she heads up an in-house team specializing in MEP systems. She is also responsible for overseeing and running the company’s building-commissioning process.
“It can get stressful running around to different jobsites to bring value to each team, but it’s a challenge I love to rise to,” said Blood Velotta, who has more than 13 years of experience in the industry.
Blood Velotta works internally and with Findorff’s clients to help identify ways companies can decrease their carbon emissions, use fewer resources and operate as efficiently as possible.
“Laura is amazingly talented and passionate about the MEP field,” said John Feller, Findorff director of project management. “Her thorough industry knowledge and excellent client repertoire allow for positive interaction and trust on every project she touches. She is an incredibly valuable asset to the Findorff team.”
Throughout her career, Blood Velotta has worked with many talented leaders, and she has taken bits and pieces from each of them to mold her own style. Most of all, though, she has looked to the example set by her mother, Susan Jones.
“She doesn’t work in the industry, but she’s pushed me to say ‘yes’ to new opportunities that I was unsure if I was ready for, and that has been a huge reason for my success in this career,” Blood Velotta said. “I now pass this advice down to others who may not have someone who believes in them like I do.”
Blood Velotta is the Rosenberry Ambassador for the United Way, as well as a member of the Wisconsin Healthcare Engineering Association. She has taken an interest in green projects and is also a member of Findorff Footprint, Findorff’s in-house sustainability team.
Outside work, her life revolves around her family, her husband and 1-year-old daughter. She also enjoys traveling, volunteering and being active.
