Mortenson Construction is seeking bidders for another round of work on a data center that’s being built as part of Foxconn Technology Group’s complex in Racine County.
It’s the second bid package related to a Foxconn subsidiary’s plans to build a so-called High-Performance Computing and Data Center at the company’s sprawling site in Racine County. The data center would be operated by Foxconn Industrial Internet, or Fii, which works with automation and smart-manufacturing technology.
The bid solicitation is related to Fii’s plans for the construction of an 11,000-square-foot globe-shaped operations center and a 34,000-square-foot data-center equipment shed. The company submitted designs for those projects to Mount Pleasant village officials in early October after having previously pulled them from consideration to make changes.
The latest bid solicitation specifically calls for work related to site utilities, waterproofing and elevator installation. It comes not long after Mortenson, in mid-October, released its first round of bid solicitations for the data center. Mortenson is serving as general contractor on several Fii buildings, although Gilbane and Exyte remain the lead contractors at the Foxconn site in Mount Pleasant.
A pre-bid meeting for the bid solicitation is scheduled for Thursday in Sturtevant. Further bidding details can be found here. The company aims to begin work on the data center buildings this year and complete their construction in 2020.
Fii also plans to have a 260,000-square-foot manufacturing building near the data center complex. That structure is to be ready for occupancy by September.
Both the data center and manufacturing building are part of what appears to be a larger Fii complex on the site. When completed, the buildings will stand in a formation resembling the company’s logo.
Plans submitted to the village provide details for several other buildings nearby. One is listed as having 28,700 square feet of space and another as having 86,900 square feet.
Meanwhile, work continues on Foxconn’s main factory building, a 1 million-square-foot manufacturing center that’s going up at the Mount Pleasant site. The company plans to have that project completed by late next year. Follow @natebeck9
