ABC sends four apprentices to national skills competition

The Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin announced that four construction apprentices will compete among hundreds of competitors this spring at the National Craft Championships in Florida, after excelling in their respective trades at the Apprenticeship Skill Competition in West Bend.

Apprentices Timothy Gittel, Nathan Myers, Matthew Tuper and Jason Tuschl will move on to the national championship in Kissimmee, Florida between March 13-15.

The four came out ahead in a contest with 35 competitors from six technical colleges in the carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing trades, according to ABC officials. The event started with a four-hour, hands-on practical competition in the morning and a written exam in the afternoon.

Here are the 2024 ABC of Wisconsin Skill Competition winners by trade.

Carpentry

• First Place – Timothy Gittel, AMCSI
• Second Place – Richard Mora-Rivas, Holtz Builders, Inc.
• Third Place – James Smerz, AMCSI

Electrical

• First Place – Nathan Myers, NSI Electrical Contractors, Inc.
• Second Place – Matthew Repka, Repka Electric, LLC
• Third Place – Tyler Scaife, Engler Electric, Inc.

HVAC

• First Place – Matthew Tuper, Southport Engineered Systems, LLC
• Second Place – Benjamin Langlois, Southport Engineered Systems, LLC
• Third Place – Matthew Hartl, Dave Jones

Plumbing

• 1st Place – Jason Tuschl, Dave Jones
• 2nd Place – Benjamin Kurth, Dave Jones
• 3rd Place – Matthew Nummerdor, Dave Jones

Last year, U.S. Congressman Scott Fitzgerald congratulated the apprenticeship competition’s first place winner at Lyons Electric in Delafield. Hayden Oestrich, the 2023 winner, also went on to the national competition in Florida.
