Neenah-based Miron Construction was selected as the general contractor for the Science and Health Sciences Building at University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. The project is expected to break ground this July and is scheduled for completion in spring of 2027.

Miron was the low bid of $163.3 million according to the Wisconsin Project Center. The company beat Eau Claire-based Market & Johnson which bid $164,9 million.

The company will demolish Phillips Hall and replace it with a five-story, 330,000-square-foot science and technology learning center.

“We are thrilled to take on the monumental project for the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire to replace its sole science facility, Phillips Hall, with a state-of-the-art Science and Health Sciences Building,” the company announced on social media.

The project will also highlight collaboration between UW – Eau Claire and the Mayo Clinic Health System, “combining a focus on education, research, and patient care that will position the Chippewa Valley as the leading provider of healthcare services throughout northwestern Wisconsin,” Miron officials added.

The facility project is Miron’s largest hard bid project to date, company officials noted. In March, the state estimated construction costs around $245 million.

Miron will work with Madison-based Potter Lawson, Chicago-based HOK and the Department of Administration’s Division of Facilities Development.

Bidding was slated to end in March but was pushed to April to give contractors and owners more time to look at plans, DOA officials said.

In 2022, the university knocked down both the Katharine Thomas and Putnam halls to make way for the science building. The new building will be home to multiple university programs, including biology, computer science and geology.
