Interstate 894 in Milwaukee County will see more construction work starting this month.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation on Tuesday announced that Gov. Tony Evers approved a $10.59 million noise barrier project along stretches Interstate 894 running through the city of Greenfield.
Project funding was included in the recently signed 2023-2025 state budget, WisDOT officials said. Work was scheduled to begin July 14, officials added.
Crews with Waukesha-based Zenith Tech Inc. will build three new noise barriers along the south side of I-894 in three locations. New barriers will be constructed between 76th and 68th street, between 68th street and 60th street and between 51st street and Loomis Road (Wisconsin Highway 36.)
There will be long-term closures of different ramps along I-894 in project locations and ramp closures will be staggered, WisDOT officials said. There will be long-term outside closures along the highway and overnight lane and ramp closures, officials added.
The project is expected to be completed by summer 2026.
In May, the state government awarded Zenith Tech $22.3 million to work on the Hale Interchange, which includes Interstates 41, 43 and 894 between Lincoln Avenue and 84th Street. Work started in late May and will continue until late 2026.
