Waukesha-based Zignego Co. will work on the second leg of Interstate 41 work in Milwaukee County, which is expected to be completed in late 2026.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Gov. Tony Evers signed a $29 million contract with the roadbuilder to resurface around five miles of existing pavement between West Burleigh Street to Good Hope Road in Milwaukee County. Work will start the week of Sept. 22.
The project calls for resurfacing existing pavement on I-41 within project limits, resurfacing Good Hope Road between I-41 terminals, bridge repairs, sign replacement, beam guard upgrades, median repairs and spot barrier replacements.
There will be long-term lane closures and lane closures in project limits, officials said. Traffic will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes in the long term, and three lanes will be reduced to one overnight. There will likely be full freeway closures overnight and ramp closures as the project progresses.
Work on the second segment of I-41 is expected to be completed by late 2026, officials said. Construction may pause over the winter.
