PROJECT SIGNIFICANCE: Hotel Verdant, a boutique hotel in Racine’s downtown, is a reimagining of the former Zahn’s Department Store. The project includes a first-floor restaurant and coffee shop adjacent to the lobby, a green roof with a deck and bar, fitness center, guest bicycles and banquet facilities, according to civil and structural engineering company raSmith.
Brookfield-based raSmith worked with The Kubala Washatko Architects to design the city and ultimately helped transform the historic building into a hospitality destination. CG Schmidt provided construction management services, and Milwaukee-based Dominion Properties led the development.
The new hotel includes an array of solar panels which provide part of the hotel’s energy, raSmith officials said. Hotel Verdant is also pursuing a LEED Gold certification, officials added.
