PROJECT SIGNIFICANCE: The Sturgeon Bay Historical Society Foundation (SBHSF) announced phase two of rehabilitating of the historic Teweles and Brandeis Grain Elevator, known as the Granary, will start Monday. Crews will restore the interior, complete the exterior, build a catering kitchen and public restroom addition and ready the ground floor for occupancy.

Milwaukee-based will be the general contractor and will work with LA DALLMAN Architects and Beane Engineering. According to the historical society, there will be a soft opening in fall 2024 and a grand opening in May 2025 when interpretive elements are installed.

Most of the phase one work was done in 2021 and 2022 and included new pilings, pouring a new foundation and restoring columns that hold up internal bins, said Nicole Matson, project manager for SBHSF.

In 2018, the Granary was put on the State and National Registries of Historic Places, project officials said. In 2019, the project was a centerpiece in Sturgeon Bay’s West Waterfront Redevelopment Plan, officials added.
