PROJECT SIGNIFICANCE: After more of a year of construction, and completed the expansion of Vets Place Central, a supporting housing facility that has operated in Milwaukee for 30 years. Before expansion, the building housed 74 veterans struggling with homelessness in a barracks-style facility where four to eight people might have shared one room, officials said.

The redevelopment featured a four-story addition and extensive renovations to the existing building so veterans could have privacy of their own room, and enhanced community spaces to continue wrap-around supportive services, officials added.
