A Milwaukee nonprofit dedicated to promoting union construction this month will host its next annual career fair at the Fiserv Forum.
Building Advantage will host the next Construction Career Fair on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Around 1,200 students from 48 local high schools will speak with contractors, try hands-on activities and learn about registered apprenticeships and construction careers.
“This career fair is the largest in the state that introduces careers in the trades to high school students,” Building Advantage officials said in news release. “The local union building and construction trades, commercial contractors and other local organizations will engage with a record number of Milwaukee and Waukesha County students through trade specific interactive activities,” they added.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and David Polk, the director of the bureau of apprenticeship standards of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, will speak about union registered apprenticeship at 11 a.m.
Last year, the career fair drew more than 1,000 Milwaukee-area high school students and dozens of unions and contractors. Johnson also attended the event with Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. Attending students tried different trades such as carpentry, metal and iron work.
