THE BLUEPRINT:
A 153-unit senior living community has broken ground in Bayside.
Wauwatosa-based Matter Development on Wednesday announced construction has officially started for Artalia Bayside, a five-story senior community with independent living, assisted living and memory care services, which will be located at the intersection of North Port Washington and West Brown Deer roads. An official groundbreaking will be held Oct. 13.
Menomonee Falls-based Moore Construction Services will serve as general contractor, Wauwatosa-based Galbraith Carnahan Architects provided design work and Milwaukee-based o&o studio handled interior design services. The team previously designed and built the Westerly Pewaukee.
Koru Health, an affiliate of Matter Development, will operate the community when it opens. The project is expected to be completed in late 2027. Matter officials declined to share the project cost.
Developers said Artalia Bayside will help meet demand for senior living in Milwaukee’s North Shore community, and added the project was one of a few of its kind to open in the area in 20 years.
The U.S. will need at least 560,000 new senior housing units by 2030 to keep up with demand, according to data from NIC MAP, a partner of National Investment Center for Seniors Housing and Care. However, the current rate of development will add only 191,000 units by that time. That leaves a shortfall of nearly 370,000 units, which could leave thousands of seniors without access to quality housing and care.
“By combining independent living, assisted living and memory care within one integrated community, the Bayside project ensures that local families can keep their loved ones close without sacrificing quality or choice,” developers said in a statement.
The project will feature amenities such as a large two-story social and dining room, a tearoom, golf simulator, health and fitness center, rooftop patio and a secure outdoor landscaped courtyard.
Artalia Bayside will be in the OneNorth mixed-use development, which includes the recently completed North Shore Library and the Symphony Apartments.
