3 injured in construction site collapse in Grafton

Three construction workers on Friday were hospitalized after a at a construction site in Grafton.

The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office at 9:45 a.m. responded to a report of a structure collapse at a construction site at the 300 block of North Port Washington Road, officials said in a social media post.

The structure, a storage condominium unit around 60 by 60 feet, was under construction when it collapsed, sheriff’s officials said. Workers were securing wooden roof trusses when the north wall bowed and the roof partially collapsed, officials added.

Three workers working on the roof feel around 16 feet, officials said. All three workers had non-life-threatening injuries, and one was trapped under debris, officials added.

The Ozaukee Central Fire Department cut through the trusses and freed the trapped worker, officials said. All three workers were transported to in Wauwatosa.

The Town of residential and commercial building inspectors and representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspected the site, officials said. It’s not clear yet what caused the collapse, they added.

The Ozaukee Central Fire Department, Port Washington Fire Department, Cedarburg Fire Department, Southern Ozaukee Fire Department, Drone Team and Ozaukee County Emergency Management assisted first responders.
