The Broadacre, a medium-density residential development, is designed to blend modern living with the area’s agricultural heritage. Located on a 10.78-acre site that was once an apple orchard, the project consists of 118 units in a mix of apartments and townhomes, with layouts catering to families, young professionals and active adults. The buildings, named after different apple varieties, maintain a residential aesthetic with gable roofs and a farmhouse-inspired design.
The $35 million project faced the challenge of integrating a high-density housing community into a historically agricultural area while respecting the local environment. The development team strategically placed the buildings to complement the existing topography, minimizing grading while maximizing green spaces and natural light. A solar energy system integrated into the building’s roof supports common areas, further enhancing sustainability.
The development’s design shows off its commitment to both community and the environment. Expansive courtyards, a dog park, pickleball courts and a nature-inspired playground cater to residents of all ages, fostering community engagement. The project is nearly 90% leased, offering a mix of residents from various generations. These features, paired with sustainable building practices such as the use of renewable timber for playground equipment and electric vehicle charging stations, demonstrate Broadacre‘s commitment to long-term environmental responsibility.
The project was completed with minimal delays, thanks to strong collaboration between developers, architects and the city of Oak Creek. The city’s leadership, including Mayor Dan Bukiewicz and Alderman Ken Gehl, supported the development’s integration with the community. Broadacre’s unique blend of sustainability, design and community focus has set a new standard for housing in Oak Creek.
