Swedish furniture and meatball maker on Thursday announced it will open a new store in a shopping center in .

This will be the second Ikea location in Wisconsin after a 290,000-square-foot megastore opened in Oak Creek in May 2018.

The Madison Ikea, expected to be 54,000 square feet, is scheduled to open in fall 2026, company officials said in a news release.

Ikea will move into 215 Junction Rd. in the Prairie Towne Center, officials said. The building is currently home to a closed Bed Bath & Beyond store – the brand filed for bankruptcy in April 2023.

Ikea officials declined to comment on the terms of the real estate transfer and investments in the new store.

As of January 2026, there were 55 Ikea stores in the U.S., according to ScrapeHero.

“At IKEA, we believe that a better everyday life starts at home — and that means making shopping IKEA easy and convenient,” said Rob Olson, interim CEO at IKEA U.S., in a statement  “Opening a new location in Madison is part of our continued commitment to reaching customers where they are, making well-designed, affordable home furnishing solutions more accessible and convenient than ever before.”

The Oak Creek store’s opening spurred nearby development such as the Creekside Conference Center and Hub13 apartments. The city used a tax incremental district for the footprint of the Ikea property and expanded it to fund infrastructure work.

The planned Madison Ikea is between large stores such as Target and Mounds Pet Food Warehouse. It will feature a central planning area with spaces simulating kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms put together with Ikea products.

There will be around 5,000 items on display and a selection of 3,000 products for immediate takeaway, company officials said.

Of course, Ikea’s Swedish deli will serve favorites such as hot dogs, veggie dogs, cinnamon buns and meatballs.
