H.J. Martin hires Shepardson

Kevin Shepardson has joined as a safety coordinator. He will initially work on the site of the new Marquette, Mich., General Hospital. Once that project finishes in 2018, he will move onto other projects at the company.

Shepardson previously served in the U.S. Army, where he was assigned to be a special operations engineer sergeant. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Statz becomes majority owner at Hoffman

Sam Statz, vice president of construction at Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, has become the firm’s new majority owner. Statz assumes majority ownership from Miles Girouard, the past president and owner, who is retiring.

In addition, the company’s minority-ownership group has expanded from five employees to nine. They include leadership members from the design, construction and administrative teams.

Kohlbeck joins

Thom Kohlbeck has joined Callen Construction Inc. as an exterior sales representative. Kohlbeck attended both the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Ealing College in London, and has more than 25 years in consultative sales, working mainly for major technology companies.

Kohlbeck specializes in windows, entry and patio doors, skylights, roofing, siding, soffits/fascia, gutters and gutter-protection systems.

SEAWI award entries are due

The 2017 Structural Engineers Association of Wisconsin’s Excellence in Structural Engineering Awards is seeking nominations.

Changes to eligibility requirements this year will allow a wider range of projects to be nominated. The project cost requirement cut-off is now at $10 million.

In addition, the “structural component or system” category has been added, and allows engineers who worked on one exceptional aspect of a project to be nominated.

Entries are due Aug. 4.

Kahler Slater has promoted five team members to the level of associate principal: Mike Franz, Skip Holschbach, Mary LaFrombois, Amber MacCracken and Joe Sinnett.

Associate principals are the primary drivers of projects and initiatives at Kahler Slater.
