Swedish-Swiss manufacturer ABB announced Monday a $100 million investment in its flagship U.S. campus in New Berlin. The new campus is currently under construction and the company marked progress with a “floor pour” at 18250 W. Lincoln Avenue.
ABB, which specializes in automated manufacturing, wants to build their U.S. headquarters, manufacturing facility and distribution center on a greenfield location in New Berlin, company officials said. A greenfield is untouched land prior to construction.
Company officials said the facility is expected to open in late 2024 and will add 100 new jobs over three years. The new campus will have a 220,000-square-foot manufacturing space and a 315,000-square-foot distribution center. The building will accommodate 720 employees and make digital drives for different industries, officials added.
Tuomo Hoysniemi, an executive for ABB, said the U.S. is a crucial market for the drives the company makes.
“The U.S. is a significant and crucial market for our drives and the services that support them. We are committed to local engineering, product design and manufacturing as well as increased capacity and innovative production and warehousing processes. Our new campus will help us better serve our local customers by increasing the availability of market-specific solutions and decreasing the time it takes to serve our customers,” Hoysniemi said in a statement.
ABB has two smaller, separate campuses in New Berlin and Wauwatosa. Company officials said the consolidation of all operations to one campus “will add additional efficiencies and reduce overall time to deliver.”
The new facility will be outfitted with solar power systems, geothermal heat pumps and modern HVAC systems to save energy and reduce usage, officials said. The company has more than 20,000 employees across more than 40 U.S. sites and has invested $14 billion in the U.S. since 2010, officials added.
