Dane County considering grant to finish work on violence shelter

A Dane County supervisor has introduced a resolution to put a $2 million grant toward the construction of a domestic-violence shelter on Madison’s north side.
If approved, the money would help Domestic Abuse Intervention Services of Dane County complete the building it is now putting up on Madison’s Fordem Avenue. DAIS runs the only shelter for victims of domestic violence in the county.
The organization has been raising money for the new shelter for two years. When completed, the building will be four times as big as DAIS’ current shelter on Madison’s west side.
The proposed grant of $2 million from Dane County could be approved as soon as the County Board’s meeting on May 15. Follow @TDR_WLJDan
