The Yards is a five-story, mixed-use multifamily development in the Reed Street Yards section of historic Walker’s Point in Milwaukee. Reed Street Yards was originally planned to be a mixed-use, urban in-fill, office, educational, research and technology zone that General Capital Group and Peter Moede developed to reinvest in the neighborhood near the Global Water Technology center.

Subsequent to the construction of The Yards project, the majority of the Reed Street Yards land was sold to Rite Hite Corp. for its global headquarters, which will bring hundreds of employees to the site. With this in mind, the need for mixed-use housing and retail in the area was evident.

Plans for the building’s ground floor included corner retail, an apartment lobby, a fitness center and heated parking structure concealed behind a back-lit frosted glass storefront. A shared second floor outdoor deck sits atop the parking structure and is accessible from a community room and residential corridor.

The apartments range from compact, 575-square-foot one-bedroom units to 1,300-square-foot two-bedroom units. Street-facing units provide 12-foot-wide sliding-glass patio doors, presenting unobstructed views of the city skyline.

Courtyard-facing units provide slightly smaller sliding-glass patio doors with a more private view of the deck and railroad.
Before the project, its site had long sat vacant at the corner of 2nd and Oregon streets.
