The new Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin facility is built for the future.
The 16,500-square-foot facility in Rock County opened in July 2022. It features large kennels with indoor-outdoor access and a play yard, cat and small animal areas, meet-and-greet social rooms and exam rooms with ultrasound and X-ray equipment.
The project also included the erection of a standalone 4,800-square-foot cold storage metal building.
This state-of-the-art project was focused on the health, safety and care of animals, while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the public.
“(This project took an) extensive amount of planning, pivoting and special care our amazing build team put into the design and construction of this exceptional community asset,” said Clint Wallisch, project manager for Corporate Contractors Inc.
“For us, it was a turnkey project that started with our business development team creating a conceptual building layout, elevations and a budget. This team added specialties to select mechanical/electrical/plumbing in the design-build scope.”
CCI was the general contractor on the project. Like many projects started in the last few years, supply-chain issues arose during construction and due to a national steel shortage, there was a complete redesign.
“The result is a right-sized … single-story, 16,500-square-foot shelter that will take us into the future,” said Jim McMullen, executive director at the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin.“We added ideas from the shelter staff on workflow, efficiency and isolation needs. We have larger and more kennels, each with indoor/outdoor access and a play yard.”
