Revitalize Milwaukee will transform Amani neighborhood

Revitalize Milwaukee (RM), a nonprofit specializing in home repairs for vulnerable people, will perform its largest weekend of home remodeling in the city’s Amani neighborhood.

Last year, RM volunteers fixed up around 18 homes in Muskego Way, a neighborhood on the city’s south side. Dubbed Block Build MKE, the 48-hour event focuses RM’s efforts in one area to ensure those who live there can continue to own their homes.

Block Build MKE will be held on Aug. 16-17, and volunteers will perform critical updates on up to 30 homes in under 48 hours, RM officials said. Updates include rebuilding porches, bathroom conversions and updating kitchens, all for free for clients.

The Amani neighborhood is between North 35th and 15th Streets, and West Capitol Drive and North Avenue. RM will partner with Dominican Center and Amani United.

RM still has sponsorship opportunities open from $1,650 to $55,000. The nonprofit is also seeking vendors for food, beverages, materials, storage, dumpsters, toilets and more.

This amazing event will help us work towards our goal of ensuring that all Amani residents have a safe and stable home.” said Maricha Harris, the executive director of the Dominican Center.

According to RM, Block Build MKE is the largest annual neighborhood transformation in Southeast Wisconsin. Since 2000, the nonprofit has provided home repairs for seniors, veterans and people with disabilities. RM has also remediated lead-based paint in Milwaukee homes.
