Project Executive of the Year – Tom Felstead – JP Cullen

Tom Felstead, division construction director at JP Cullen, brings more than 30 years of construction experience to his role leading the company’s Industrial Division.

Over his 17-year tenure with Cullen, Felstead has been instrumental in establishing the company’s national presence, creating a operational model that enabled regional expansion across the country.

Felstead oversees construction projects for major clients in the food and beverage sector, including serving as the primary leader for all of Frito-Lay’s processing and packaging automation projects nationwide. His work has expanded from an initial engagement at the company’s Beloit facility to projects across the country. He has also cultivated long-term partnerships with clients that include Abitec and IFF.

Recently, Felstead led the successful completion of Tillamook’s first ice cream manufacturing plant outside Oregon, located in Decatur, Illinois. Despite significant schedule and budget challenges, the project was delivered on time and within budget.

Known for his mentorship approach, Felstead leads project teams nationwide — a distinction within Cullen, where most work remains regional. Chad Schakelman, vice president of the Industrial Division, noted that Felstead’s “ability to cultivate strong relationships with key clients” has resulted in repeat partnerships over the years.

Felstead remains active in industry organizations, including the Stateline Manufacturing Alliance and the Midwest Food Products Association.
