2026 mayor’s design awards open in Milwaukee

Nominations for a citywide building project competition are open.

The city of Milwaukee Department of City Development announced it is currently accepting nominations for the 29th Annual Mayor’s Design Awards.

The awards recognize projects that add value to their neighborhoods through restoration construction or other enhancements that “respect the urban fabric and contribute to the character of their surroundings,” DCD officials said.

Awardees range from large iconic buildings to small business storefronts, public spaces and community-led public art installations, officials added.

To qualify, projects must be in the city of Milwaukee and must have been completed or nearly completed before Jan. 1, 2026.

The city will take nominations through an online form. The nomination deadline is March 2, 2026. Those looking to nominate can send questions to [email protected].

In 2025, DCD recognized Davidson Park, Vel R. Phillips Plaza, Beerline Plaza and National DIY Skatepark for that year’s Mayor’s Design Awards.
