Construction on a 100-room in ‘ 84th and Greenfield redevelopment area is expected to begin in the fall and be completed by spring 2014.

West Allis reached an agreement with Waterpark Ventures Management Services LLC, a Wisconsin Dells development entity, for the construction of the $13-million project. An operator for the hotel has not yet been selected.

The four-story hotel will include a banquet facility to accommodate 300 people.

The project is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs, and the hotel is expected to employ 80 full- and part-time workers, according to a news release from West Allis.

The city invested nearly $1 million to build a storm water detention facility to alleviate potential flooding resulting from the hotel, which will be located in an area affected by heavy flooding in 2008 and 2009.

West Allis’ Community Development Authority will provide the developer with a $600,000 loan at 10 percent interest and will contribute the 3.2-acre development site, which is part of a nearly 8-acre parcel comprising the closed Milwaukee Gray Iron foundry, a former restaurant and residential properties.

West Allis hopes to attract a grocery store and restaurant to fill the remaining space, according to a news release from the city.
