Milwaukee County Board OKs shift of highways to Franklin

A proposal to shift ownership of two Milwaukee County highways to the city of Franklin moved forward Thursday.
The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to send the proposal to County Executive Chris Abele for potential approval.
Combined, the two highways, A and J, are about 2.7 miles long. The county would reconstruct both highways before the transfer, and the city would be responsible for all future plowing and maintenance.
County A runs between West Ryan Road and West Puetz Road and also is known as South 68th Street. County J runs from West Forest Home Avenue to West High-View Drive and also is known as South North Cape Road.
Supervisors Mark Borkowski and Steve Taylor, whose districts include the highways, both said the transfer will save the county money and make maintenance of those roads more efficient.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation approved the change, according to letters attributed to Frank Furdek, WisDOT urban and regional planner.
