The owners of Michael’s Family Restaurant will present plans for a food truck park on the corner of West Cleveland Avenue and South 84th Street, according to a meeting agenda.

The Plan Commission will consider the project on Thursday.

The project would have space for six food trucks, a three-season bar, a coffee vendor stall, outdoor seating and yard games, a commission report showed. If approved, the project will open in mid-April.

Planners want to expand an existing three-car garage and redevelop it into a three-season bar and restaurant space. The redevelopment project involves a tavern with table and bar seating and equipment such as a walk-in cooler.

Michaels’ owners will ask the city to approve a conditional use permit and a site review for the parcel. City planning staff recommended the West Allis Common Council to give the thumbs up to both requests.

Parking won’t be provided on site, but the report showed there were around 90 parking spots available on the street and at a city-owned lot on the southwest corner of 84th and Cleveland. The existing parking lot to the north has two bicycle racks.

The West Allis proposal isn’t the first food truck-based business proposed in the Milwaukee area; in 2019, Zócalo Food Truck Park opened in Milwaukee for the first time.
