2024 Women in Construction – Maria Seitz – Miron Construction

While the majority of Miron Construction employees focus on constructing buildings and other projects, Maria Seitz dedicates herself to making sure they understand and take advantage of their benefits.

Educating employees about their benefits is essential to Seitz’s role as a human resources manager at Miron.

“I’m fortunate that on an employee’s first day, I’m able to spend a couple hours diving into the generous benefit package Miron provides,” she said. “I truly enjoy educating our employees on all the tips and tricks to utilize and understand our health, dental, vision, HSA and 401(k) plans.”

In addition to those one-on-one encounters, Seitz speaks to employees at quarterly meetings about their benefit package and how to make the most out of the benefits they choose to take.
Seitz also initiated and manages Miron’s self-insured health insurance program.

“She now manages it, which includes dealing with employee issues that arise, helping people find providers and being of service when there are billing questions,” said David Walsh, Miron’s executive vice president of human resources.

Through the transition to being self-insured, Seitz said she’s educated employees about being health literate consumers, which saves Miron and its employees money.

Besides leading the changes in insurance, Seitz played a vital role in Miron’s adoption of a Human Resources Information System (HRIS). When she started working at Miron 11 years ago, she said all HR processes were done manually.

“After a couple years of using spreadsheets to manage processes coupled with the incredible growth we’d experienced, I quickly realized we needed a system to automate our processes,” Seitz said.

“Seeing this project through from start to finish and being part of the team that dedicated countless hours to making this project a success is what made this a special project for me.”
