The new owners of this former storage building had a goal of re-creating a vibrant first-floor commercial space and converting its upper level into their private residence. Galbraith Carnahan Architects accepted the challenge and worked in close collaboration with JCP Construction to provide a design that met both commercial and residential needs.
The upper unit was finished to provide a four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath unit with a roof deck that can be reached from the main living space. Its facade and first floor, occupied by the African American Chamber of Commerce, have also been renovated. .
The project team turned the vacant former warehouse into a hub for entrepreneurial development.
By combining a co-working office space, a large instructional kitchen and offices for the chamber, Galbraith Carnahan Architects provided a network of both innovation and support. The intention was to design a setting in which young entrepreneurs could feel safe while taking a leap into the development of businesses that will meet the needs of the revitalized economic corridor.
