The bridge in Milwaukee closed after an in-depth inspection while the evaluates future repairs.

DPW on Friday announced the bridge span will be closed at South 16th and West Pierce Streets and the bottom of the viaduct near Potawatomi Casino Hotel.

Part of the bridge over the Menomonee River was already closed for an ongoing rehabilitation project between West Canal and Clybourn Streets, officials said.

Pierce Street will remain accessible to traffic, officials added.

Around 12,600 vehicles each day travel in each direction over the bridge, a 2023 DPW study showed.

In summer 2025, DPW and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation started construction on the 16th Street bridge over the Menomonee River. Improvements to the 1929 bridge were expected to be completed by fall of 2026, a project webpage showed.
