To the editor:
Financial incentives funded by the taxpayer for where a business is located? Financial incentives funded by the taxpayer for the geographical area in which employees live?
Neither is the right answer.
Incentivizing commercial enterprise to perform unnatural acts through hiring by geographic boundaries or domiciling their business in the city of Milwaukee are not the right answers. Both ideas are expensive ways of treating symptoms and not the problem.
And worst of all, these actions amount to financial “bribes” to businesses that domicile or hire inside certain borders. It’s an embarrassment.
The city of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County attempt to address fundamental problems within their respective borders by continuing to treat symptoms and not the problems themselves. Compounding that mistake, they are asking those not responsible for the problems to fund these misguided and expensive attempts.
Answer fundamental questions and you will have the right answer. Why are so many successful businesses and their employees living elsewhere by choice and preference? What is it about Milwaukee city and county that is not attractive to both businesses and the employable? What changes can both Milwaukee city and county make to be the location of choice and preference for businesses and employable residents in Wisconsin?
