Redevelopment of former middle school gets approval

A zoning change that paves the way for a mixed-use redevelopment of Milwaukee’s former Malcolm X Middle School won full city approval Tuesday.
The mixed-use proposal includes an International Baccalaureate middle school, commercial space and about 55 apartments.
Milwaukee-based Korb Tredo Architects Inc. is designing the project, and architect Jason Korb said earlier this month that more detailed plans for the school and mixed commercial and residential building will need city approval after they are developed. Plans for the school portion, he said, probably will be ready in spring.
